A Brief Picture of Phoenix Air History
Phoenix Air was founded in Atlanta, Georgia in the late 1970’s by Atlanta native Mark Thompson. We started as a small local charter company operating two vintage Beech 18’s primarily transporting automotive parts to assembly plants around the country.
Today, Phoenix Air has grown to a multi-faceted air charter company with global capabilities. The company name “Phoenix Air” was derived from the mythological bird of ancient Greek lore, “The Phoenix,” which is part of the official Great Seal of the City of Atlanta.
Phoenix Air moved its administrative headquarters and heavy maintenance facilities from the Atlanta area to Cartersville, Georgia (40 miles north of Atlanta) in 1985. Today, it leases 85% of the Cartersville-Bartow County Airport (KVPC). It is here that Phoenix Air has its high-security facilities, maintenance, dispatch operations, and headquarters staff.
All “heavy” aircraft maintenance and aircraft modifications are also performed in Cartersville. In addition to Cartersville, Phoenix Air also has offices, aircraft, and staff in several states and around the world where company aircraft and personnel are supporting various long-term contracts.
